The name Syddenhame is of Anglo-Saxon origin and came from when the family lived in the parish of Sydenham found in the counties of Devon, Oxfordshire and Somerset. 1 2 These place-names were derived from the Old English terms sid meaning wide and hamm meaning water meadow. 3

Later again, Richards Sydenham was recorded in the Assize Rolls for Lincolnshire in 1384. 4
