For political, religious, and economic reasons, thousands of English families boarded ships for Ireland, Canada, the America colonies, and many of smaller tropical colonies in the hope of finding better lives abroad. Early immigrants bearing the Solt surname or a spelling variation of the name include: Samuel Salt who settled in Virginia in 1679; Joseph Salt settled in Virginia in 1672; William Salt settled in Virginia in 1771; Robert Salt arrived in Philadelphia in 1854..
