Etymology of Pong

The sea-swept Hebrides islands and the west coast of Scotland are the ancestral home of the Pong family. Their name comes from the personal name Payne. Pong is a patronymic surname, which belongs to the category of hereditary surnames. Although this interpretation of the etymology of the surname Pong is uncertain, it is generally accepted at the present time.
