Research into the origins of individual families in North America revealed records of the immigration of a number of people bearing the name Godsmant or a variant listed above: Robart Goodman, who came to Virginia in 1619; John Goodman who sailed on the "Mayflower" and arrived in 1620 at Plymouth, Massachusetts; Richard Goodman, who settled in Cambridge in 1632 and was later Constable of Hartford Conn..
