Early Origins of the Bointyn family

The surname Bointyn was first found in East Riding of Yorkshire at Boynton, a village and civil parish which dates back to the Domesday Book where it was first listed as Bouintone. [1] "Boynton Hall, the residence of the Baronet, is a lofty and handsome mansion, beautifully situated upon an eminence in a richly wooded park; the acclivities present some fine plantations, and a large sheet of water ornaments the grounds." [2] "Bartholomew de Bovington, living a the beginning of the 12th century, stands at the head of the pedigree; other authorities mention Sir Ingram de Boynton of Aclam who lived in the reign of Henry III, as the first ancestor." [3]

The parish of Roxby in the North Riding of Yorkshire had some more early records of the family. "This place, in the Domesday Survey called Rozebi, was formerly the property of the Boynton family, who had a considerable mansion here, and in the reign of Henry V. founded a chapel of ease to the rectory of Hinderwell, of which they were patrons." [2]
