As early as 1000 A.D. a Zedlitz was the commandant of the Plassenburg near Culmbach, and Hinko von Zedlitz was a minister and advisor to Duke Miecislaus of Poland in 1173. At the marriage of the Princess von Meranien and Duke Heinrich I in 1200, Tietze von Zedlitz and his family were moved out of their ancestral seat in the Voigtland and into Silesia.
