Rountree History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

The Rountree surname comes from the Middle English word "rown" and the Old English word "tree;" meaning together, a "rowan tree." Thus the first to bear the name likely lived near such a tree. [1]

Early Origins of the Rountree family

The surname Rountree was first found in Yorkshire where some of the earliest records of the name include: William Rowentree, Yorkshire who was listed in the Deposition from York Castle; and Ralph Roentree, Yorkshire who was listed in the Remains of Dean Granville.
