The Rimes surname comes from the Old French "ramel," in turn from the Latin "ramus," meaning "a branch;" as such it may have been a topographic name for someone who lived in a wooded area. It has also been suggested that the name was of nickname origins for someone who had a connection with Palm Sunday (dimanche des rameaux).
