Patillick History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

The ancestors of the Patillick name date back to the kingdom of Dalriada in ancient Scotland. Patillick was a name for someone who lived in either of two places called Pittilloch; the first is near Freuchie in the county of Fife, while the second is in Glenfarg, in the county of Perth.

Early Origins of the Patillick family

The surname Patillick was first found in Fife, where they held a family seat from very early times, and are conjecturally descended according to Historian, Hugh MacDonald, from the MacLullichs, who claim descent from Angus, grandson of Somerled, Lord of the Isles, the original name being Patilloch or Patillock.

Migration of the Patillick family to the New World and Oceana

Ancestors of many of the Dalriadan families who crossed the Atlantic still live along the east coast of the United States and Canada. Some Scottish settlers arrived in Canada during the American War of Independence as United Empire Loyalists, while others stayed south to fight for a new nation. The descendants of Scottish settlers in both countries began to rediscover their heritage in the 19th and 20th centuries through Clan societies and highland games. An inquiry into the early roots of North American families has revealed a number of immigrants bearing the name Patillick or a variant listed above: Henry Patillo, notable Presbyterian minister of Hanover, Virginia, who led the Wyllis Creek congregation in 1748; Thomas Patillo settled in Philadelphia in 1828.
