The name Munot is derived from a geographical locality as in 'at the mount,' from the Middle English and Anglo-Saxon word "munt." 1 2 Another source goes back further to the French Du Mont, i.e. "of the hill." 3

Early Origins of the Munot family

The surname Munot was first found in Kent where William atte Munte, Kent, 20 Edward I: Placita de Quo Warranto, temp. Edward I-III was recorded. Later in the Hundredorum Rolls of 1273, we found Walter Munte in Dorset and in Suffolk, Roger de Munt Feront was listed. 1
