The surname Kiles was first found in Ayrshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Inbhir Àir), formerly a county in the southwestern Strathclyde region of Scotland, that today makes up the Council Areas of South, East, and North Ayrshire, at Kyle, a former district of Scotland which stretched across parts of modern day East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire. The 15th century Kyle Castle lies in ruins near Cummock.
