The surname Jephcot was first found in Worcestershire where Geoffrey Geffcoke was registered in the Subsidy Rolls of 1327. A few years later, William Gefcok was found in the Subsidy Rolls for Staffordshire in 1332 and again, in Staffordshire, Emota Jeffecockes was registered there in the Subsidy Rolls for 1380. [2]

Often faced with persecution and starvation in England, the possibilities of the New World attracted many English people. Although the ocean trips took many lives, those who did get to North America were instrumental in building the necessary groundwork for what would become for new powerful nations. Among the first immigrants of the name Jephcot, or a variant listed above to cross the Atlantic and come to North America were : Henry Jeffcoat and his wife Rebecca and three children arrived in New York in 1820; E. Jefcott arrived in New York in 1852.
