The surname Hinsey was first found in Yorkshire, where we find Henry Hynson, Ellen Hyneson and Thomas Hynson, "ploghwryght," (plough wright) listed in the Yorkshire Poll Tax Rolls of 1379. Henry and Thomas were either brothers or father and son, and were the scions of their respective branches of the family name.

Families left for the New World in extremely large numbers. The long journey was the end of many immigrants and many more arrived sick and starving. Still, those who made it were rewarded with an opportunity far greater than they had known at home in England.
