The New World beckoned settlers from the Scottish-English borders. They sailed aboard the armada of sailing ships known as the "White Sails" which plied the stormy Atlanti c. Some called them, less romantically, the "coffin ships." Among the early settlers bearing the Haydy surname who came to North America were: William Addy who was fined in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1635 for working on a Sunday; John Ade, his wife, two sons and two daughters, settled in America in 1709.
