An ancient Pictish-Scottish family was the first to use the name Errell. It is a name for someone who lived in the lands of Errol (Arroll) in Perthshire.

Early Origins of the Errell family

The surname Errell was first found in Perthshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Pheairt) former county in the present day Council Area of Perth and Kinross, located in central Scotland, where they held a family seat in the parish of Errol from whence they get their name. The family is not directly related to the Lords of Errol, who are in fact a part of the Scottish Hay clan.

Migration of the Errell family to the New World and Oceana

Scots left their country by the thousands to travel to Australia and North America. Desperate for freedom and an opportunity to fend for themselves, many paid huge fees and suffered under terrible conditions on long voyages. Still, for those who made the trip, freedom and opportunity awaited. In North America, many fought their old English oppressors in the American War of Independence. An examination of passenger and immigration lists shows many early settlers bearing the name of Errell: A. E. L. S. and W. Arrall who landed in Baltimore, MD. in 1820; John Arrel landed in Philadelphia PA. in 1848; Arthur Arrell landed in Philadelphia PA. in 1848..
