indicating that those holders registered would hold the land until the end of time. Hence, conjecturally, the surname is descended from the tenant of the village and lands of Corfham of the river Corve, held by Earl Roger, a Norman Baron, who was recorded in the Domesday Book census of 1086. Built by William the Conqueror, the castle dates back to the 11th century and is today protected as a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
