The origins of the Breem name lie with England's ancient Anglo-Saxon culture. It comes from when the family lived in Gloucestershire, where they held the manor and lands of Breme in the village and parish of that name. It is from the manorial name from which the family name is derived. The name Breme meant fierce, or vigorous.

To escape oppression and starvation at that time, many English families left for the "open frontiers" of the New World with all its perceived opportunities.
