Many of these settlers stood up for their newfound freedom in the American War of Independence

An examination of passenger and immigration lists has located various settlers bearing the name Abbarms: John and Thomas Abram who were among the first settlers in North America, settling in Virginia in 1635 and 1653 respectively; William Abrams settled in Maryland in 1733.
