The surname Lendrum was first found in Aberdeenshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Obar Dheathain), a historic county, and present day Council Area of Aberdeen, located in the Grampian region of northeastern Scotland, where they held a family seat in their territories. The name Lendrum is thought to be of local origin from the place so named near Turriff, Aberdeenshire. 1

The Celtic word "lendrum" means 'moor of the ridge.' The earliest mention of a variation of the name is of a Thomas Leintron, who was a baillie in St. Andrews, 13 miles south of Dundee in 1582.
