The surname Hoxie was first found in Lancashire at Hawkshaw, a village, now in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester. Hawkshaw was also a village in Peebleshire but was destroyed when the Fruid Reservoir was constructed in 1963.
