Early Origins of the Froude family


The surname Froude was first found in Devon, where they held a family seat from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. There is a record in the Domesday Book of a Frodo, who was living at Bury St. Edmunds, and whose son is documented as Gilbert filius Frodonis or Fit-Froude.
