The Danisolm surname is generally thought to have been a nickname derived from "son of Dan" 1 2 or "son of Daniel." 3

Early Origins of the Danisolm family

The surname Danisolm was first found in Cumberland (now Cumbria.) "For several centuries Danson has been a familiar South Cumberland and Furness surname. It is found in the neighbourhood of Millom." 3

In the Subsidy Rolls of Cumberland, we found Robert Dandeson who was listed there in 1332. A few years later, John Dandesone was listed in the Register of Freemen in York in 1363 and Robert Danson was listed in the Yorkshire Poll Tax Rolls of 1381. 2

Migration of the Danisolm family

To escape oppression and starvation at that time, many English families left for the "open frontiers" of the New World with all its perceived opportunities. In droves people migrated to the many British colonies, those in North America in particular, paying high rates for passages in cramped, unsafe ships. Although many of the settlers did not make the long passage alive, those who did see the shores of North America perceived great opportunities before them. Many of the families that came from England went on to make essential contributions to the emerging nations of Canada and the United States. Research into various historical records revealed some of first members of the Danisolm family emigrate to North America: Daniel Danison Sr. and Daniel Danison Jr. who arrived in Maryland in 1694.
