The distinguished and ancient surname Sartin comes originally from the Old French "certeyn," meaning "self-assured" or "determined." The name was probably first brought to England in the wake of the Norman invasion of 1066; however, it is also thought that some branches of the Sartin family are descended from the French Huguenots who fled to England and Scotland.
