Early Origins of the Rungen family

The surname Rungen was first found in Silesia, where this family became a prominent contributor to the development of the district from ancient times. Chronicles first mention Volkwin Runge of Rostock, Mecklenburg, around 1280, Hartmut Runge of Speyer in 1283, and Wilreich Runge of Neisse in 1487. Always prominent in social affairs, the Rungen family became an integral part of that turbulent region, as it emerged to form alliances with other families within the feudal system.
