McKnider History, Family Crest & Coats of ArmsEarly Origins of the McKnider familyThe surname McKnider was first found in Ayrshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Inbhir Àir), formerly a county in the southwestern Strathclyde region of Scotland, that today makes up the Council Areas of South, East, and North Ayrshire. A very rare name, Mac an fhigheadair in Gaelic, means 'son of the weaver. ' The first record of the name appeared fairly late: Matho M'Nedyr who was burgess of Ayr, 1471. Later, John Makneddar resigned certain annual rents to the Friars Preachers of Ayr, 1515. "Three Maknedars, followers of the earl of Cassilis, were respited for murder in 1526. John McNettar, fisherman in Inverness, 1557, John M'Knedar, clerk of Glasgow diocese, 1567; and John McKnedar, notary in Prestwick, 1575, may be the John McKnedar, burgess of Ayr in 1585, who appears as cautioner for Oswald McKnedar in £200." 1 Early History of the McKnider familyThis web page shows only a small excerpt of our McKnider research.
