Early Origins of the Mapstone family

The surname Mapstone was first found in Lancashire where William Mabbeson was recorded in the Subsidy Rolls of 1332. Later, William Mabbesson was listed in the Subsidy Rolls of Suffolk in 1381 and in Yorkshire, we found William Mabotson, Mabetson in the Yorkshire Poll Tax Rolls of 1379. 4

Another source notes John Mabson, in the Patent Rolls, in 8 Richard II (1491.) The Surtees Society Publications lists Michael Mabson in York in 1494. 1
