Their name comes from having lived in Langworth, Lincolnshire 1 where the first record was found in Saxon time as Longwathe c. 1055. The place name literally means "long ford," from the Viking "langr" +"vathe." 2 The place name Langwith are related and are found in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, but these places are recorded after the Lincolnshire parish.
