The surname Ferservice was first found in Lanarkshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Lannraig) a former county in the central Strathclyde region of Scotland. Records of the family are rather late as the first record found was that of George Fairservice in Barsteidis, parish of Lesmahagow, 1634. 1 But this may be due to the lack of records at that time as the same author notes that another "thirteen of the name are recorded (Lanark CR.). John Fairservice in Mylneburne, parish of Dalserff, 1629 (Campsie). Agnes Fairservice in Edinburgh, 1640." 1
Despite the name being very rare, the character Andrew Fairservice appears in Sir Walter Scott's famous novel "Rob Roy" as Sir Hildebrand's gardener.
