 England Early Origins of the Travell familyThe surname Travell was first found in Berkshire where William Travail witnessed a charter of Robert de Albini to Wallingford Priory (no date given.) Later, "Radulphus Travel" gave four bovates and a toft at Wintrington, in Lindesey, to the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem. In the Norman Exchequer Rolls of the end of the twelfth century, we find a Walter Travail; perhaps the same Walter Travel whose heirs held land at Marshton, in Herefordshire, of the Honour of Weobley, temp. Henry III. This Walter de Travaille or de Travele occurs in the Rotuli Curiae Regis of 1194-1198; where we also find mentioned William de Trauuel, of Shropshire.
