Early Origins of the Stunt family

The surname Stunt was first found in Wiltshire where Richard Estordet, Estordit was recorded in 1084, a full two years before the Domesday Book. Years later, we found Hugo Sturdy recorded in the Assize Rolls for Yorkshire in 1219. Sturdi (with no forename) was recorded in the Pipe Rolls for Yorkshire in 1230 and Geoffrey Sturdy, Sturdi was listed at Oseney, Oxfordshire in 1220. 2

The Hundredorum Rolls of 1273 had two listings: Hamond Sturdi, Huntingdonshire; and Walter Sturdi, Oxfordshire. The Yorkshire Poll Tax Rolls of 1379 included an entry for Robertus Sturdy. 1
