The name Pittilloch was first used in the ancient Scottish kingdom of Dalriada. It indicates that the first bearer lived in either of two places called Pittilloch; the first is near Freuchie in the county of Fife, while the second is in Glenfarg, in the county of Perth. Research into the origins of individual families in North America revealed records of the immigration of a number of people bearing the name Pittilloch or a variant listed above: Henry Patillo, notable Presbyterian minister of Hanover, Virginia, who led the Wyllis Creek congregation in 1748; Thomas Patillo settled in Philadelphia in 1828.
