 Scotland Early Origins of the MacNider familyThe surname MacNider was first found in Ayrshire (Gaelic: Siorrachd Inbhir Àir), formerly a county in the southwestern Strathclyde region of Scotland, that today makes up the Council Areas of South, East, and North Ayrshire. A very rare name, Mac an fhigheadair in Gaelic, means 'son of the weaver. ' The first record of the name appeared fairly late: Matho M'Nedyr who was burgess of Ayr, 1471. Later, John Makneddar resigned certain annual rents to the Friars Preachers of Ayr, 1515. "Three Maknedars, followers of the earl of Cassilis, were respited for murder in 1526.
