Early Origins of the Holdcastell family
The surname Holdcastell was first found in Cheshire at Oldcastle, a township, in the parish of Malpas, union of Wrexham. The township "took its name from an ancient castle, which was destroyed before 1585. " One of the earliest records of the name was in the year 1389 when Thomas Oldecastell held the estates in this shire. Over in Almeley, Herefordshire a branch of the family was found in early times.
