Early Origins of the Denver family

The surname Denver was first found in the parish of Donaghmoyne in County Monaghan (Irish: Muineachán) located in the Northern part of the Republic of Ireland in the province of Ulster, where Patrick Denvir was recorded in the Hearth Money Rolls of 1663. However, family tradition traces the roots of the surname back to the D'Anver of Norfolk family, who were given lands in England by William the Conquerer. The tradition follows that the family of the regicide Sir John Denvir came to Ireland and settled in a place near Strangford in County Down.
