The history of the Bricknall family goes back to the ancient Anglo-Saxon culture of Britain. It is derived from the family living in or near the village of Brignall near Greta Bridge close to Barnard Castle, in the North Riding of Yorkshire. It was transferred to County Durham for administrative and ceremonial purposes on 1 April 1974. Early Origins of the Bricknall familyThe surname Bricknall was first found in Yorkshire. However, Bracknell is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Bracknell Forest in Berkshire. For those families that arrived safely, modest prosperity was attainable, and many went on to make invaluable contributions to the development of the cultures of the new colonies. Research into the origins of individual families in North America revealed records of the immigration of a number of people bearing the name Bricknall or a variant listed above: Richard Brignall, who arrived in Virginia in 1640; and Thomas Brignal, who settled in Ontario in 1861.
