Early Origins of the Bobenheuser family

The surname Bobenheuser was first found in the Rhineland and Hessen, where the family was anciently associated with the tribal conflicts of the area. They declared allegiances to many nobles and princes of early history, lending their influence in struggles for power and status within the region. They branched into many houses, and their contributions were sought by many leaders in their search for power. Chronicles also trace branches of this noble family back to Swabia and Franconia. From early on they held estates on the Main river, as well as in Hanau, Nassau, Isenburg, Darmstadt, and Wurzburg. The family was already highly regarded in the year 1246, the year in which the founding father, Friedericus von Babenhausen, died. The ancestral seat of the family is the castle and city Babenhausen in the duchy of Hessen. Two other Hessian villages took on the name Bobenhausen, one in the county of Lissberg and the other in the county Ulrichstein.
