The Wisor surname is generally thought to be derived from the word "wische" or "wiese" both of which mean "meadow." Thus the earliest uses of the name may have been to describe someone "from the meadow." There have also been place names derived from this word, and there are no doubt instances where the surname derives from one of the place names.
