The Italian surname Tricino is most likely derived from a place name. There is a Tricino, located three kilometers east of Pompeii. There is also a Tricarico city located in Southern Italy near Matera in the region of Basilicata. The earliest records of this city refer to it as Tricarium. The etymology of this place name is uncertain, but, it may be derived from "tricarico" meaning "three cargos."
