The Jewish name Sellinger is of uncertain origin, but is thought to be a habitation name derived from the town of Solingen in Northern Germany, or, perhaps the name was a variant of the popular name Solomon. Note that Salinger is also an English surname derived from St. Leger, a martyred 7th Century Bishop.
