The surname Sando was first found in Galicia, where, according to Juan Garcto in his "Libros de Nobilitate," the family's "casa solar" or home, is said to be Sande Castle in the place and valley of the same name. Today Sande is a parish in, the city of Cartello, in the province of Orense. The first caballero (knight) on record of the name from this region was Juan de Sande.
