The surname Razum is a patronymic surname formed by adding one of the many Russian suffixes, such as "-ov" and "-ovic" to the personal male name Razum, meaning "reason."

The House of Razumovsky or Rozumovsky is the name Imperial Russian noble family of Zaporozhian Cossack origin from Siveria. The Austrian branch of the family survives today. but the main family line became extinct in the 19th century.

Early Origins of the Razum family

The surname Razum was first found in Severia or Siveria, Russia. The family traces its origin to a khutir (hamlet) called Lemeshi, now in Chernihiv Raion, Chernihiv Oblast.

The Austrian branch was started by Count Grigory Razumovsky (1759-1837), who was forced to relocate to the Austrian Empire in 1816, after he received the hereditary title of Prince in 1815 from Francis I, Emperor of Austria.
