Early Origins of the Rangot family

The surname Rangot was first found in Champagne, where the family was established in Rangecourt, a village in the department of Haute-Marne, in the district of Chaumont.

The members of the family also branched to other regions, where several of them distinguished themselves. The branch Rangeard was established in a village in Pas-de-Calais, in the district of Arras.

Pierre Rangeard, a historian, was born in Angers in 1692, the son of a shoemaker. He was a priest in the parish of Saint-Maurice of Angers, and then state prosecutor for Anjou until his death in 1726. Several of his works are located in the library in Angers.

François Ranger, son of Pierre and Marguerite (née Fortin), was born in at Rivières-des-Prairies, Quebec in 1704. His first marriage was to Marie-Anne Biroleau, daughter of Pierre and Anne, on 15th October 1725. He married again on 28th August 1730 to Madeleine Lauzon, daughter of Gilles and Marie-Anne. His third and final marriage was to Marie-Joseph Proulx, daughter of Joseph and Marie-Joseph, on 7th January 1734. François and Marie-Joseph had one daughter together, Josephte Ranger, who was born on 8th November 1734. 1
