at Polstead, a Saxon small village and civil parish that dates back to c. 975 when it was listed as Polstede. By the Domesday Book

To this day, there are still two large ponds in the village. The church located at the bottom of Polstead Hill, close to Polstead Pond, dates from the 12th century and contains what many believe are the earliest bricks made in England
. Polstead Heath is a hamlet nearby.
