The surname Ownsworth was first found in Lancashire at Unsworth, a hamlet, in the township of Pilkington, parish of Prestwich cum Oldham, hundred of Salford. 1 Now part of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, Unsworth dates back to 1291 when it was first listed as Hundeswrth. By 1333, the place name was known as Undesworth.
