Early Origins of the Menger family

The surname Menger was first found in Gascony (French: Gascogne), an area of southwest France bordering Spain, that was part of the "Province of Guyenne and Gascony" prior to the French Revolution, where this family was established in earlier times.

The members of the family also formed important alliances with other distinguished families of the day. An alliance was formed between the branch Mongeot de Boisset and the Boitouset family of Burgundy. The branch Monginot established an alliance with the La Loge family, and the Marchand and Simony families of Burgundy.

The branch Mongey formed an alliance with the Migieu and DePringles families. Other important alliances were between the branch Demonge and the Le Compasseur family, the Petit de Bressey family and Thomas D'Islan, and also between the branch Demongeot and the Joly family of Burgundy.
