What does the name Loon mean?

The ancient Dutch surname Loon is a toponymic surname. Loon, an Old Dutch plural for of "Lo" meaning "near/in the woods", is found in the name of multiple towns like Borgloon and Loon op Zand and in medieval counties in the Low Countries.
