Early Origins of the Laras family

The surname Laras was first found in Catalonia, in northeastern Spain. However, the Larrain branch of the family hailed from the Basque Country in northern Spain. There are two branches of this family: Los Marqueses (The Marquess) the descendants of Santiago de Larraín y Vicuña who arrived in Chile in 1685 and Los Ochocientos (The 800s) the descendants of Martín José de Larraín y Salas who arrived in Chile in 1733. Today, the Larrain has its highest incidence in Chile where it can also be spelt Larraín or Larraìn.
