Some of the first settlers of this family name or some of its variants were: Anna Catherine Kress, who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1729; Anna Margaretha Kress, who came to Pennsylvania in 1740; Hans Cunroth Kress, his wife Elizia, their daughters Elizabeth, Ferena, and sons Frederich and Henrich, who all came to Georgia in 1741.
