Kreckovsky Early Origins



The surname Kreckovsky was first found in Volhynia, the eastern province of Poland which has changed hands throughout history so many times between Russia and Poland. Mostlky populated by Ruthenians or Ukrainians, there are only 16% Poles and a like number of Jews. There are many Polish landowners and nobility. The main towns are Luck, Ostrog, Rowno, Dubno and Kowel. The surname became noted for its many branches in the region, each house acquiring a status and influence which was envied by the princes of the region. In their later history the name became a power unto themselves and were elevated to the ranks of nobility as they grew into this most influential family. The main Clan is Dolega considered to be a noble family of Poland and held extensive lands and a castle.
