What does the name Jakubowski mean?

The name Jakubowski is a patronymic surname created from a form of the personal name Jakob. This name was applied as a distinguishing epithet which was placed after the bearer's first name. In this instance, the family name Jakubowski is derived from the Hebrew given name "Yaakov" (Jacob), the younger twin brother of Esau.

In accordance with the Polish Clan system, the newly ennobled family was allocated the arms of an extant Clan, and here they shared the arms of the Topor Clan, along with about 300 other Polish families. The arms existed in four variant forms dating back to the year 1401, and were widespread throughout Poland.
